We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. I build up several light layers of color before applying heavy, stronger layers. Colors react differently while blending, depending on the order in which you apply them. Sometimes starting with a light/medium tone & adding darker tones on top of that works well, sometimes it doesn't. Experiment with your colors and see what works for you - it will take time but you'll have fun doing it
Sometimes the paper you use can make a big difference - I used 100lb smooth bristol for this drawing, it takes colored pencils very well and really helps give your work a smooth look.
PS - I don't use a blender, I just can't get them to work well for me.
